NarraLearn

Give every lesson a voice and an AI tutor. NarraLearn converts existing course materials — slides, PDFs, curricula — into voice-narrated lessons paired with an always-available AI tutor that answers student questions in real time. Built on the CAIDEN Voice AI platform.

The problem

Most educational content is text-heavy and lecture-shaped, and it loses students. Learners disengage from walls of slides, completion rates sag, and the one thing that actually moves the needle — a tutor who can answer "wait, what does this mean?" the moment confusion hits — is only available during class hours, if at all. For learning centers, test-prep facilities, and universities running large-enrollment courses, that gap is expensive: it shows up as drop-off, inconsistent outcomes across sections, and support that doesn't scale. Instructors also can't clone themselves. Delivery quality varies from one section or tutor to the next, and producing polished, narrated course material for every lesson is slow, manual work that most teams never get to.

Key challenges

Turning static material into a living lesson is harder than text-to-speech. Narration has to sound human, not robotic, or students tune out within a minute. The AI tutor can't just retrieve a fact and recite it — it has to explain, ground its answers in the actual lesson content, and stay accurate, because a confidently wrong explanation actively harms the learner. The tutor also has to know where the student is. A question asked in lesson three shouldn't get a lesson-one answer, and the assistant has to hold enough context to be genuinely helpful without making the student re-explain themselves. On top of that, voice-based interview practice — where students speak answers and get spoken feedback — demands low-latency, interruptible conversation that feels like talking to a person. And all of it has to scale cleanly from a single uploaded lesson to a full multi-section curriculum, with engagement data that tells instructors what's actually working.

What we built

NarraLearn ingests a course's existing materials and turns them into voice-narrated lessons, each with an embedded AI tutor grounded in that lesson's content. Instructors upload slides, PDFs, or a full curriculum; the platform generates human-quality narration and attaches a contextual tutor that students can ask questions of at any hour. The tutor answers from the lesson material — grounded, not guessed — and tracks the student's position in the course so its help stays relevant. For skills that require practice, NarraLearn adds voice-based interview drills: students speak their answers and get spoken feedback in a natural, back-and-forth conversation. Underneath, it runs on the same production Voice AI stack behind CAIDEN — real-time audio, transcription, and natural speech — tuned for teaching rather than transactions. Engagement analytics (completion tracking, replay data) give instructors visibility into where students engage and where they stall.

Our approach

  1. 1

    Materials-to-narration pipeline

Uploaded slides, PDFs, and curricula are converted into voice-narrated lessons with human-quality speech. The narration is tuned for listening — paced and phrased so students stay engaged instead of tuning out.

  2. 2

    Lesson-grounded AI tutor

Each lesson carries a contextual tutor that answers from that lesson's content, not the model's priors. Grounding is what separates a real tutor from a confident guesser — critical when a wrong explanation harms the learner.

  3. 3

    Course-aware tutoring context

The tutor tracks where the student is in the curriculum so answers stay relevant to their progress, and holds enough session context that students never have to re-explain what they're working on.

  4. 4

Voice interview practice with spoken feedback

Low-latency, interruptible voice drills let students speak answers and hear feedback in a natural conversation — built on the CAIDEN real-time audio stack.

  5. 5

    Engagement analytics

Completion tracking and replay data surface where students engage and where they stall, giving instructors the visibility to fix weak spots in the material.

Key architectural decisions

Ground every tutor answer in the lesson content

In education a fluent wrong answer is worse than none. Tying responses to the uploaded material keeps the tutor accurate to what the course actually teaches.

Human-quality narration over raw TTS

Students abandon robotic narration fast. Investing in natural, listenable speech was a first-class requirement, not a nice-to-have — it's what keeps learners in the lesson.

Track course position as tutoring context

A tutor that forgets where you are is exhausting. Course-aware context lets the assistant adapt to the student's progress and give relevant help.

Build on the CAIDEN Voice AI stack

The real-time audio, transcription, and TTS infrastructure was already production-hardened. Reusing it meant the effort went into the learning experience, not re-solving low-latency voice.

Results

  • Existing course materials converted into voice-narrated lessons
  • An always-available AI tutor grounded in each lesson's content
  • Voice-based interview practice with spoken, conversational feedback
  • Course-aware tutoring that adapts to where the student is
  • Engagement analytics — completion tracking and replay data for instructors
  • Consistent delivery across sections, instructors, and cohorts
  • Scales from a single lesson to a full multi-section curriculum

Impact

NarraLearn turns static course material into something students can listen to and talk back to — with a tutor on call at every step. For learning centers, test-prep facilities, and large-enrollment courses, that means higher engagement, more consistent delivery, and tutoring support that finally scales past class hours. It's the difference between handing students a deck of slides and giving every lesson a voice and a patient tutor who never logs off.
